Localty Privacy Policy

Vancity, as the promoter of Localty, collects, uses and discloses your personal information in accordance with this policy, to enable you to participate in Localty activities and to allow Vancity to support and administer the Localty program. By providing personal information to Vancity through the localty.ca mobile responsive website (“Web-App”) or by participating in Localty, you consent to Vancity collecting, using and disclosing your personal information in accordance with this policy.

What is Personal Information?

In this policy, "personal information" means information about an identifiable individual, including the individual’s name, email address, Facebook account user name, Twitter account username, passwords, and records of transactions with participating Localty businesses. Personal information generally does not include business contact information such as an individual’s name, business title, business address, business phone number and business fax number.

Collection of Personal Information

Vancity may collect your personal information from Localty account registrations, from participating Localty businesses, and from information supplied by you in connection with other Localty activities.

When you access the Web-App, Vancity may collect certain information from your mobile device. Some examples of information Vancity may collect include: information about the types of web browsers used to access the site, the levels of encryption supported by these web browsers, and the date and time of access.

Use of Personal Information

Vancity may use personal information to inform you of changes to the Localty program, to provide you with service information about Localty and the Web-App, to administer and improve Localty, to inform you if you have won a Localty contest or promotion or are otherwise entitled to a benefit from your participation in a Localty activity, to administer Localty contests, promotions and other activities, to periodically conduct surveys about Localty, participating Localty businesses and Vancity, and to comply with applicable laws.

If you provide a separate consent or if we are otherwise permitted at law, Vancity may also use your personal information to inform you of Localty contests, promotions and other activities, to provide you with information about participating Localty businesses and their products and services, and to provide you with information about Vancity and its products and services.

If you provide a separate consent, Vancity may use location based services to enable certain functionality on the Web-App.

Disclosure of Personal Information

If you win a Localty contest and accept a prize, Vancity may publicly disclose your name, city of residence, photograph or any other likeness and/or statement in any publicity carried out by Vancity relating to Localty or the contests. Vancity may also disclose aggregated anonymized Localty participation data to participating Localty businesses, and to promote Localty. Vancity may otherwise disclose personal information at your request or with your consent.

Vancity will not disclose your contact information to participating Localty businesses, and Vancity will not sell Localty account lists or your personal information to third parties.

Vancity may share your information with any person contracted to work on Vancity’s behalf relating to Localty, or to provide products and services to Vancity which are related to Localty (“Business Partners”), but only as needed to provide the Web-App and Localty services. Our Business Partners may at times be responsible for processing or handling personal information. They are provided only the information necessary to perform the services. In addition, Vancity requires them to protect the information in a manner that is consistent with our privacy policies and security practices. Certain of our Business Partners may be located in other jurisdictions and subject to the laws and regulations of other jurisdictions or countries, such that other countries’ governments, courts or law enforcement agencies may be able to obtain disclosure of your personal information. Only in exceptional circumstances will we disclose information without your consent, and only as permitted or required by law.

Retention of Personal Information

Vancity will retain your personal information only as long as necessary or expected to be necessary to enable you to participate in Localty activities and to allow Vancity to administer the Localty program, or as required by legislation.

Protection of Personal Information

Vancity will protect your personal information in its custody or under its control by making reasonable security arrangements to prevent unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal or similar risks.

Withdrawal of Consent

You may at any time withdraw your consent to receiving emails and similar communications about Vancity and participating Localty businesses’ products and services by clicking unsubscribe in any such email or by sending an email to localty@vancity.com.

You may withdraw your consent to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information under this policy at any time by email to localty@vancity.com, but any withdrawal of your consent will be considered a notice of cancellation of your Localty account and you will no longer be able to participate in Localty.

Changes to Policy

We may amend this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any substantial changes to this policy.

Compliance and Complaints

Vancity’s Chief Privacy Officer bears the overall responsibility for the protection of personal information and compliance with this policy.
